Onsite Activities

The following activities are located on the site. Please note that parents are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of their children at all times.

Equipment for all the games can be borrowed from Reception, a deposit of 10€ is required per Gite..

BADMINTON The court is located on the terrace below the swimming pool

BOULES pitch is located near the top playground

PLAYGROUND Located at the top end of the site

ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND Located in the woods

UNDER6’s PLAYGROUND Located near to Reception. Really only suitable for small children.

TABLE TENNIS Located near to Reception

External Activities

CANOEING can be booked at Reception for some of the best stretches of the river, Carsac to Cenac & Cenac to Beynac.  

BIKES/CYCLE TRACK There is a cycle track running between Souillac and Sarlat. Bikes can be hired from a number of locations, please ask for details. 

TENNIS There is a tennis court in the Hotel Cayre down by the river and a Municipal court in St Julien.

RIVER SWIMMING is possible. Access can be gained on the south bank of the river immediately after the bridge at Rouffillac

LAKE SWIMMING There is a large pleasure lake at Grolejac with beaches and activities.

CRAZY GOLF is available at Camping Aqua Viva on the main road to Sarlat

HORSE RIDING/PONIES There is an equestrian centre at Vitrac.  Please ask for details.

TEN PIN BOWLING There is ten pin bowling in Sarlat.

AERIAL PARK There are two aerial parks (suitable for most ages), located opposite each other on the main road to Sarlat.  Details from Reception.

RECEPTION OPENING HOURS 2022 SEASON There will be a member of staff available at reception during the season (May to September) 9.00 to 10.00 every morning they can help you  to: Report Issues, collect racquets and other games (10€ deposit) to use for the duration of your stay, book Canoeing trips and Bikes, make reservations at Restaurants

The Dordogne has changed the way waste is collected in line with Government guidance. There is a new system of waste disposal for the Gites site and we respectfully ask you to adhere to the requirements made by the Local Authority. General Waste, Recyclable Materials and Glass must be taken off site and disposed of in any of the Waste Stations in the area. If you are out and about you can take your glass or recycling with you and deposit them. You will probably be less keen to have black bin bags in your car for any length of time and may wish to use the nearest one which is in Carlux Village.

This means food waste vegetable peelings any contaminated packaging and plastic bags must be placed in black bin bags which are provided in your Gite. They need to be securely tied and taken off site to be disposed of in the appropriate container. Leave the rubbish in the black bag and don’t overfill as they will be too big for the hole provided.


This means rinsed plastic bottles, yoghurt tubs food and drinks cans, cardboard packaging, magazines and paper should be placed in a recycling bag or bin which is provided in your Gite and post into the appropriate receptacle.  Bring the bin or bag back for future use.

All Glass containers- Emballages en Verre

All clean glass including bottles and jars can be posted into the appropriate receptacle.


BANK – The nearest cash machine is Credit Agricole in the village of St Julien

BARBECUES – Each Gite has its own BBQ.  Fire is a major risk throughout the region, so please be careful when disposing of ash. Charcoal and fire lighters can be found in all supermarkets.  There is a dustbin at the side of reception for cold BBQ ash. PLEASE LEAVE THE GRILL CLEAN AT THE END OF YOUR STAY & LEAVE IT ON THE BBQ.

BED LINEN/TOWELS – Bed linen, towels and pool towels are provided for your stay. (Unless you have made other arrangements with the owner) For visitors staying longer than one-week, fresh linen and towels will be placed in the Gite. Pool towels are only changed if you are staying more than 2 weeks. Please put your dirty linen in the laundry bag provided and complete the form and place it inside the attached plastic wallet. Place the dirty linen either outside the laundry door or inside the door of your Gite

CYCLE & CANOE HIRE -details at reception

CLEANINGPlease treat our properties with the respect and care that you would take of your own home.  We do our utmost to ensure that all the Gites are clean and in good condition for your stay with us and we ask you to leave them in the same state on your departure. 

DEPARTURE – On the day of your departure please vacate the Gite no later than 10.00 am. Please ensure that the Gite is clean and tidy that rubbish is removed and that the beds are stripped and all soiled towels and linen are listed and placed in the laundry bag provided.

DOCTOR-The contact numbers are outside reception.

Most local practices including M. Stephane Florenty in Carlux (0553287678) are by appointment. If they are full, you should be given another number to ring. If you stress it’s important, you should get an appointment eventually, the same day. 

Please don’t hesitate to ask us to call for you if you’d prefer. The A&E at Sarlat deals with cases outside surgery hours and in order of medical priority, youngest first.

IRON/IRONING BOARD – You will find an iron and ironing board in the Gite.

MARKETS – The Tourist Information Office will have up to date details. There is a list of local markets openings days at reception.

NOISE - Please help us to maintain the tranquillity of the site by keeping noise to a minimum between 21.00 and 08.00.  

POST OFFICE - There is a post office in the centre of the village.  The opening hours are at Reception.

RESTAURANTS – A selection of menus and contact details for the restaurants that we are pleased to recommend can be found in Reception. 

SHOPS/SUPERMARKETS – Your custom is greatly appreciated by the local shops and helps to support an important part of village life The nearest  PROXY supermarket is in Carlux and is open in the summer from 8.00 to 20.00 every day except Sunday when its open until 13.00. There is a Halle paysanne on the road out of the village.  Opening hours are generally 08.00 to 12.00/12.30 and 15.00 to 19.00. 

BOUCHERIE/BUTCHER The butchers van offering a good selection of meat and pates stops at the Place de la Boucherie in Carlux village just along from the bar) on Wednesdays from 10.00 to 12.00. There are butchers in St Julian and Salignac.

BOULANGERIE/BAKERS The local Carlux shop is open every morning except Monday from 8.00 to 12:30. The same owner has a shop in St Julian (over the river at the bottom of the hill) which opens from 07:00 to 12:30 and 15:15 to 19:00. Daily except Sunday afternoon. During the season the bakery van will call on site between 9.00 and 9.15 they will blast the horn to announce their arrival.

DISPOSAL OF RUBBISH AND RECYCLING  all waste and recycling (including glass) must be taken off the site to one of the many recycling points (list available at reception. There is also a list of what goes in which bin for your guidance.

RECEPTION- will be open between 9.00 and 10.00 every morning May to September.

SUPERMARKETS Carrefour, Casino, Leclerc, and Lidl are in Sarlat and Leclerc, Casino, and Lidl are in Souillac. Intermarche is in Salignac.  Opening hours are generally from 09.00 to 19.00/20.00 Monday to Saturday, some of the supermarkets are also open on Sunday morning.  The large supermarkets do not close for lunch. 

SOFA BEDS/FOLDING BEDS – If your Gite has sofa beds or use of a folding bed which you are using for small children and would like a waterproof sheet, please ask at Reception.

TOURIST OFFICE – There is a local tourist office in the Old Railway Station on the Road to Souillac.  The main tourist office is in the centre of Sarlat.

VEHICLE FUEL & CHARGING POINTS– There are petrol stations in Sarlat and Souillac, most now have a 24hour credit card facility.  The supermarkets are considerably cheaper than the independent stations.  GPL (LPG) is available at the AVIVA station in Sarlat. The large Supermarkets have EV charging outlets.

WASHING – If your Gite does not have a washing machine you may wish to make use of the onsite machines currently charged at 8 Euros. Check at reception. There are commercial washing machines for larger items at the Intermarche in Salignac @ 4€ for 8Kg and a dryer @ 2€ for 16kg (the machines take coins and cards). 

WiFi - there is FREE wifi listed as Lesgitesdecarlux but you have to Register EACH device to connect by completing the form for Q Spot.
